The two foreigners, of Italian nationality, who were yesterday arrested by the Judicial Police (PJ) with 326 kg of cocaine, on board the sailboat ‘Goldmund’, in Funchal, will await the trial in preventive detention, in the Prison of Funchal, in Cancel.
The coercion measure was known after the defendants were heard throughout the day, between 12:15 pm and 2:05 pm, in the first judicial interrogation at the Judicial Court of Madeira. They were indicted for aggravated drug trafficking.
As DIÁRIO reported in today’s print edition, the drug was hidden in 15 bags, which, if they entered the European market, would yield around 14.7 million euros. According to the coordinator of the Investigation Department of the Judicial Police of Madeira, Ricardo Tecedeiro, it would be enough to make about 3 million individual doses.
