The Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) handed over in extradition to Raúl Flores Hernández, The Uncle, a trafficker who worked with the main cartels in the country and who was linked to soccer player Rafael Márquez and singer Julión Álvarez.
According to the FGR, El Tío was extradited to the United States, where a Federal Court of the District of Columbia seeks to prosecute him for criminal association and crimes against health.
The authorities point to him as likely responsible for negotiating and trafficking large amounts of cocaine with the Jalisco Nueva Generación, La Federación de Sinaloa, Beltrán Leyva and Milenio cartels, from 1980 to March 2017.
In addition, he is accused because during that period he allegedly maintained supply sources in Colombia and controlled the shipping routes from Mexico to the United States.
It was delivered at the International Airport of the City of Toluca, State of Mexico, to the designated US agents for its final transfer to Washington.
In 2017, the United States identified Flores Hernández, arrested in July of that year, as one of the most powerful drug traffickers, and even linked him with soccer player Rafael Márquez and singer Julión Álvarez.
As a result, the accounts of both public figures were frozen in both Mexico and the United States, but are currently released. Until September 2020, Julión Álvarez was still part of the list of people linked to the drug trafficker’s money laundering.
That month, EL UNIVERSAL reported that Hernández Flores requested an amparo so that the Mexican government would require guarantees from the United States that the death penalty will not be applied once he is delivered to that country.
He claimed that the Foreign Ministry refused to request a letter of commitment from the United States so that he would not be sentenced to death and so that he would not be tried for charges other than those indicated in the extradition request.
