(Seoul = Yonhap News) Russian figure skating singles journalist Kim Kyung-yoon = Kamila Balieva (16), who caused a doping scandal at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, is on the verge of a four-year suspension of qualifications as a player .

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said on its website on the 14th (local time), “The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has filed a lawsuit against the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and Balieva” and ” the arbitration has begun”.

The CAS said: “WADA has requested that all of Balieva’s competition results be canceled after December 24 last year, the date of collection of the positive test sample, along with a 4-year penalty for Balieva’s qualifications.” .

CAS plans to appoint three arbitrators after receiving written statements from WADA and Balieva.

One person is nominated by WADA, one by RUSADA and Balieva and one by CAS.

Subsequently, CAS will arrange a hearing and other programs and proceed with legal proceedings related to Balieva’s doping case.

It is likely to take at least several months or years before the final result is published and the losing party can appeal to the Swiss Federal Court.

WADA recently filed a complaint about Balieva’s doping with CAS after RUSADA, which led the doping investigation, missed the deadline for submitting its findings.

If WADA’s demands are met, Balieva will be barred from competing in all competitions for the next four years, including the 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics.

In addition, the Russian Olympic Committee may strip Balieva of her gold medal in the figure skating team event at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not hold an awards ceremony and award no medals when it became known that Valiyeva had been found doping soon after winning the team event by the Russian Olympic Committee.

If the gold medal is stripped by the Russian Olympic Committee, the United States, which placed second, will hang the gold medal around its neck. 3rd place Japan gets a silver medal and 4th place Canada gets a bronze medal.

Baliyeva caused a stir when trimetazidine, a banned drug ingredient, was detected in a urine sample submitted in December 2021 during the Beijing Winter Olympics in February.

At the time, Balieva was not disqualified from the Olympics for being a minor under the age of 16 with no self-initiation for drug use and normally competed in the women’s singles.

Balieva failed to clinch a medal in fourth place, making mistakes as if feeling burdened by public opinion.

Baliyeva’s doping case changed the world of ice skating.

The International Skating Union (ISU) has raised the age of eligibility for international senior figure skating competitions from 15 to 17 years beginning July 1, shortly before the competition, to protect young athletes.

Russian players are barred from participating in international competitions this season due to sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine, and Balieva is only participating in Russian domestic competitions.

Baliyeva recently presented an unconventional program at a Russian national competition, using her news of doping discovery as a narrative.

Balieva continues to deny doping. Even the Russian authorities ignore criticism from the international community by awarding prizes and medals.
