REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Drug rehabilitation is one way to cure drug addiction. Internal Medicine Specialist, Ari Fahrial Syam, said that rehabilitation can totally cure addicts. According to Ari, drug addiction can be eliminated by rehabilitation.
“Temporary rehabilitation it’s the process of getting rid of addiction so that you don’t remember ever taking drugs again. Many patients have done it and can recover completely,” he said when contacted republika.co.id, Sunday (12/12).
Regarding rehabilitation, it depends on how long it takes, he emphasized that it depends on the psychological factors of the addict. So it can not be determined how long because each case is different. What is clear, he continued, is that multi-disciplinary parties will deal with drug addicts from the mental side, to the drugs.
Regarding the possibility of people who have fully recovered from using drugs again, Ari admits it could happen. However, the urge to return to using drugs is not from within his body.

In fact, he warned, the organs of former drug addicts could have complications in the liver. It all depends on how long you’ve been exposed to and how long you’ve been taking drugs.

He gave an example that if a drug addict is exposed to hepatitis B, then he/she is treated with hepatitis B. Then if you use injecting drugs, you can get hepatitis B or hepatitis C. So, if an organ is damaged, such as the liver, it must be treated until the virus disappears. In other words, the side effects of complications are treatable.
However, the man who served as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia reminded that it all depends on his degree. If the damage is still minor, it can be treated. On the other hand, if it’s too heavy, you can’t.
“So, don’t ever try drugs because they can damage the body’s organs including the brain, eyes, or liver over dose can die,” he said.
Regarding how long it takes until all organs of the addict’s body are damaged by drugs, he emphasized that it varies. It all depends on the sensitivity of each body. In addition, depending on the dose and duration of use.
