Drug Hoax for Covid-19 Patients, This is Recommendation by Specialist Doctors!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Recently, a viral message on Whatsapp contains a list of drugs that can be used to prevent lung infections in Covid-19 patients.

The doctor confirmed that the news was not true or a hoax. Some of these drugs should not be purchased over the counter and must be as recommended by a doctor.

The following is the content of the message:

“To suppress lung infections so they don’t quickly increase >50% for those who are positive for covid, how to drink:
1. Ivermactine 12mg, 2 grains dissolved in half a glass of water (3 days)
2. Azithromycin 1 x a day (afternoon) 1 pill
3. Doxycycline 2 times a day (morning & evening) 1 pill
4. Zinc 1 x a day dissolve in 1/2 cup water (night)
5. Vitamin E 1 x a day (morning)
6. Vit d 1 x a day (afternoon)”

General chairman of the Indonesian Lung Doctors Association (PDPI), Dr Agus Dwi Susanto, SpP(K), FISR, FAPSR explained, if a COVID-19 patient wants to buy or take COVID-19 drugs, there are a number of drugs that are safe to use and listed in the COVID-19 Management Guidelines.

“From last year, the reference has been in all health care facilities. If there is no reference, doctors can’t treat. The Ministry of Health has also adopted it, so it’s a pocket book,” explained Dr Agus quoting detik, Saturday (26/5/2021).

Here are some medications and vitamins that are recommended for asymptomatic (OTG) patients:

1. Vitamin C (for 14 days) with options:

– 500 mg non-acidic vitamin C tablets/6-8 hours orally (for 14 days)
– Vitamin C lozenges 500 mg/12 hours orally (for 30 days)
– Multivitamin containing vitamin C 1-2 tablets/24 hours (for 30 days)
– Recommended multivitamins that contain vitamins C, B, E, Zinc

2. Vitamin D

– Supplements: 400 IU-1000 IU/day (available as tablets, capsules, effervescent tablets, chewable tablets, lozenges, soft capsules, powders, syrups)
– Drugs: 1000-5000 IU / day (available in the form of 1000 IU tablets and 5000 IU chewable tablets)

3. Supportive medicines, both traditional (Fitofarmaka) and Indonesian Original Modern Medicines (OMAI) which are registered with BPOM, can be considered for administration but with due regard to the development of the patient’s clinical condition.

4. Drugs that have antioxidant properties can be given.

As for patients with mild symptoms who are self-isolating, the following are recommendations for drugs and vitamins that can be consumed:

1. Vitamin C (for 14 days) with options:
– 500 mg non-acidic vitamin C tablets/6-8 hours orally (for 14 days)
– Vitamin C lozenges 500 mg/12 hours orally (for 30 days)
– Multivitamin containing vitamin C 1-2 tablets/24 hours (for 30 days)
– Recommended multivitamins that contain vitamins C, B, E, Zinc

2. Vitamin D
– Supplements: 400 IU-1000 IU/day (available as tablets, capsules, effervescent tablets, chewable tablets, lozenges, soft capsules, powders, syrups)
– Drugs: 1000-5000 IU / day (available in the form of 1000 IU tablets and 5000 IU chewable tablets)

3. Symptomatic treatment such as paracetamol if fever.

4. Supportive medicines, both traditional (Fitofarmaka) and Indonesian Original Modern Medicines (OMAI) which are registered with BPOM, can be considered for administration but with due regard to the development of the patient’s clinical condition.
