The police were notified on Friday evening about a lifeless person in Åkrafjorden.
The emergency services and the SAR Queen rescue helicopter rushed to the scene, and the extent of the damage was initially unknown.
Two hours after the first report came in, Sørvest police district announced that a man had been pronounced dead at the scene.
The police are investigating the incident at the scene, but that there should be no suspicion that anything criminal has occurred in connection with the accident.
Sent divers
The report about the incident came at 9:41 p.m.
– A possible drowning has been reported, said rescue manager Johan Mannsåker at the Norwegian Central Rescue Service to BT shortly afterwards.
The operations center in the Sørvest police district stated that the person was found in the water.
Resources from Etne and Haugesund, as well as divers from Stavanger, went to the scene, according to the 110 central.

At 22.24 the police stated that the person had been brought ashore, and that life-saving first aid was being administered at the scene.
Picked up by boat
According to Mannsåker at the Main Rescue Centre, there were boats in the area that came to and picked up the person, who should not have been far from shore. One of the boats is also said to have had paramedics on board.
– Emergency services on site take care of the person. The condition is unclear, Mannsåker told BT at 10.30pm.
At around 10.40pm, BT was informed that a helicopter had landed at the site.
An hour later, the police announced that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. At the same time, they are working on notifying relatives, informs Sørvest police district.
