Drought alert level 4 – News of an exceptional nature

In Grenoble and the surrounding area, the level of rainfall is historically low. Following the aggravation of the drought in Isère, the Prefecture of Isère has therefore reinforced the restrictions on the use of water. On the municipal territory, level 4, the highest drought alert level ever reached in Grenoble, was triggered this weekend. Consequently, the City of Grenoble calls for everyone’s vigilance and responsibility and is strengthening its measures to combat drought.

Following the triggering of level 4, urban cleanliness adapts: facades, roofs and other waterproofed surfaces can no longer be watered. The roads are now cleaned only by sweepers. Market locations are subject to an exception with regard to health requirements. Green spaces are also affected by the drought alert. From now on, flower beds and lawns can no longer be watered, with the exception of watering restricted to three hours a day, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., and only directed towards trees less than 3 years old. Public fountains in open circuits are, for their part, shut down. The sports fields are no longer watered except for exceptions.

In a context of high heat, the City wants to protect the inhabitants, in particular the most fragile public, by guaranteeing access to points of freshness. The municipal swimming pools are accessible to Grenoble residents to cool off. Some city parks are open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The museums and the museum, spaces of freshness, welcome residents free of charge during orange weather vigilance. The opening hours of municipal showers have also been extended. Les Maisons des Habitants offer outings to the lake or the mountains. La Maison de la Montagne offers advice on family outings accessible by public transport. For a break in the shade, open-air libraries are set up in the Paul Mistral, Jean Verlhac and Bachelard parks. Finally, it is possible to register on the register of isolated vulnerable people which allows you to receive support and assistance from the CCAS during heat waves in particular (more information).

Grenoble residents are called upon to respect the restriction measures imposed by level 4 of the drought alert. Are forbidden :

  • Watering the vegetable gardens between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Watering lawns and flower beds.
  • Washing his vehicle.
  • Filling, leveling and emptying of private swimming pools.

The Métropole has issued recommendations for saving water to be found on its site, such as:

  • Run washing machines and dishwashers when they are full.
  • Do not let the water run while washing your teeth, hands and in the shower during the washing phase.
  • Prefer a shower to a bath and use an hourglass to limit shower time.
  • Eliminate any leaks in the sanitary facilities.
  • Collect tap water while waiting for hot water to water the plants.
  • Use water-saving equipment (aerators).
