A drone flying over treetops in Davy Crockett National Forest recently spotted something at the bottom of a pondwhich set the Texas police on the trail of a nearly three-decade-old crime.
The square shape is hard to see, nestled in the green darkness of Rock Hole Pond, as the photos shared by the county sheriff show of Trinity, Woody Wallace his Facebook account.
However, the researchers only needed to go “deep” into the forest to reach the pool of slippery algae. Officers at the scene were joined by divers from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Wallace said.
Using a bulldozer and cable, they dragged the “secret” Rock Hole ashore. It was a car, as the photos showwith every inch green like pond.
The vehicle was last registered to a resident of nearby Angelina County. Investigators spoke to the man and learned that the car was stolen “around 1996,” according to Wallace.
“We were a little nervous about what (we might) find inside the car, however we are pleased to report that we found nothing but a car seat, some unopened cans of Budweiser beer and some catfish,” he said. said Wallace.
As for who stole the car 26 years ago and why, investigators still don’t know, however, thanks to the discovery, there are new clues.
Anyone with “who and why unloaded the vehicle there” information is encouraged to contact the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office at 936-642-1424. Located approximately 125 miles north of Houston, the Davy Crockett National Forest encompasses more than 160,000 acres of East Texas wilderness.
