Jakarta –
At least two oil and gas facilities in western Russia were targeted by drone attacks on Thursday evening local time (1/6/2023). This event adds to the growing list of drone attacks on Russian territory near the border with Ukraine.
“Two long-range drones attacked the object of the fuel and energy complex at about 3 am,” said Vasily Anohin, the acting governor of the Smolensk region near the border with Belarus, as quoted by The Moscow Times.
He said there was damage and that no one was injured in the attack.
Baza, a Telegram channel with alleged links to Russian security services, identified one of the sites in the Smolensk region as a refinery belonging to state pipeline company Transneft in the village of Peresna.
The second drone targeted a gas distribution station and damaged an administration building in Divasy village, Baza said.
This is the second attack on Russian oil facilities this week. Ukraine has neither confirmed nor denied its role in drone strikes on Russian territory.
The number of drone strikes targeting key Russian hotspots has increased dramatically in recent weeks.
On Friday, Russian air defense systems shot down “several Ukrainian drones” in the Kursk region near the border with Ukraine, according to Governor Roman Starovoit.
He published footage of apartment blocks and several private homes that he said were damaged by drone strikes.
Alexander Bogomaz, governor of the neighboring Bryansk region, accused Ukrainian troops of shelling two villages. He said the attack burned down two houses but left no injuries.
The Kaluga region, which adjoins the Bryansk, Smolensk and Moscow regions but does not share a direct border with Ukraine, also reported an explosion in the morning.
Kaluga region governor Vladislav Shapsha said an “unidentified object” exploded when it hit a forest and did not cause any damage.
