“Tonight, the air defense shot down a drone over Mozhesky in the Moscow region. The second drone attacked a building under construction in the city,” Sergey Sobyanin said on the Telegram app.
He pointed out that no injuries were recorded, according to preliminary reports.
For its part, the US State Department warned Ukraine, saying that Washington “does not encourage drone attacks on Russia.”
Moscow and Kiev exchange drone attacks on a regular basis, with the recent increase in raids targeting Russian territory.
The RIA Novosti news agency reported that an “explosion” was heard in Moscow’s business district, adding that “soon after that, smoke rose from buildings in the same area.”
The Tass news agency quoted emergency services as saying that one of the buildings under construction in the business district had suffered minor damage.
Airport closures
And TASS added, quoting the aviation authority, that air traffic stopped at the airports of Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo in Moscow.
Russia’s Tass news agency, citing unnamed officials, said Moscow airports had suspended flights early Wednesday.
Major airports around the Russian capital have repeatedly suspended incoming and outgoing flights in recent days due to attacks by Ukrainian drones.
