DRK Ravensburg asks for blood donations – SWR Aktuell

The amount of blood in reserve has fallen dramatically, warns the German Red Cross. The DRK Ravensburg has increased the number of its blood donation appointments and is hoping for new donors.

We have our hands full supplying the clinics with sufficient blood, according to Alfred Kneer from the DRK blood donation service in Ravensburg. During the vacation period and in the flood areas in Rhineland-Palatinate, however, not all appointments could currently be carried out.

At the same time, the need for blood reserves may continue to rise, suspects Kneer. In view of the impending further wave of pandemics, clinics could prefer operations.

Young first-time donors in Upper Swabia asked

Overall, the blood donation campaigns offered in Upper Swabia are well attended. However, it would be nice and helpful if more younger first-time donors decided to donate blood, says Kneer.

Because of the corona pandemic, the DRK had to completely change its blood donation campaigns. Participants now book an appointment in advance. This then takes about 30 minutes. In the pandemic, the appointments in Ravensburg and Weingarten were doubled from six to twelve. Blood donation campaigns take place there every month. There are also regular appointments in the surrounding communities.
