Online identification without ID or driver’s license, satellite control, camera monitoring. Drivers, welcome to the new age.
We inform the reader that the following text and commentary is a journalistic article that contains the opinion of the author.
What would it be like to drive without a driver’s license? We very often write on AutoŽiva about how legislation develops and changes not only in our country, but also abroad. For example, in Poland, starting in 2020, they no longer need to have a physical driver’s license with them. We are also flirting with the idea of electronic documents. Pirates are beating their chests as the introduction of this documentation is about to fall.
Humanity is slowly and surely dooming itself to a science fiction future
With the experience of how such a transformation usually takes place in our country, one begins to be slightly afraid of where his personal data will end up, who will steal and misuse it. However, the idea of electronic documents is not bad. And it is actually feasible, without unnecessary burden on the state apparatus. There is no need to invent anything, drivers could easily drive without a driver’s license. How to identify a citizen without an ID card and driver’s license?

Even today, as part of biometric documents at the office, a person’s fingerprints are scanned. So why have documents? A fingerprint reader that the police would have with them would be enough. The inspected person would just put his hand on the reader and it would take the fingerprint. It would be checked online and it would be done. If someone objects that this is already too much intrusion into privacy and that it would be additional costs for the state apparatus, they may be right. But even here a solution is offered.
Smart mobile phones. It would be enough to have a simple application that would be connected to the citizen’s portal. A driver stopped by a police patrol would not have to have documents with him, a mobile phone would be enough. He would turn on the app, log in with his fingerprint, code, identity and show it to the police officer. He could verify the person’s identity. If someone didn’t want to have a smartphone, the classic IDs would still be valid.
The future of drivers in the online world may not be all rosy
Of course, the question arises as to what to do if the power does not work. Yes, in the event of a long-term blackout, one would not be able to prove one’s identity. This raises the question of whether electronic documents are the right step. Certainly not in the eyes of a skeptic. Just like virtual money. On the one hand, the very essence of money is “virtual”. Money only has such a value that people are able to recognize for themselves, in reality it is just printed colored paper.
Nobody wants to carry gold, precious stones or bear furs with them anymore. But if the payment terminals don’t work, you can’t even go to the toilet, let alone buy something. It would be similar with electronic documents. Any other idea of personal identification is probably too radical or controversial. A unique number tattooed on the hand, it was already here and the connections are truly tragic. And a chip under the skin, that’s like something out of second-rate science fiction. In the end, it may turn out that a card with a name and a photo is not such a bad invention after all.
