In percentage terms, Geneva set the record for most alcohol-related traffic accidents with serious personal injury last year. Only in two cantons there were no accidents with serious injuries or deaths due to drink-driving.

When it comes to the number of alcohol-related road accidents with serious injuries or fatalities, Geneva remains at the top of the list for the past year with one accident per ten thousand inhabitants. It is followed by Nidwalden (0.93) and Valais (0.76).
The only two cantons in which there were no accidents with seriously injured persons or fatalities from drink-driving in 2019 are Obwalden and Appenzell Innerrhoden, as the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) announced on Thursday.
In total, alcohol caused the death of 20 people on Swiss streets in 2019. Most of the fatalities were caused by alcohol consumption on the streets of the cantons of Geneva, Vaud and Valais, where four fatal accidents were recorded in each canton in 2019. The canton of Bern follows with three fatal accidents, ahead of Freiburg (2), Graubünden, Ticino and Zurich (1 each).
