Driving license, everything changes soon: watch out for the new rule

A real revolution will start next year. From 2023, in fact, the license will be digital, marking a clear and sudden change of course.

This is the novelty introduced by Vittorio Colao, Minister for technological innovation and digital transition. Not only theItalia however, as this reform will gradually come into effect throughout theEuropean Union.

The goal of the digital license is to simplify checks

As mentioned, therefore, our Minister is collaborating at full capacity with his colleagues from other states so that the driving license can be created through a QR Code. By doing so, Italian citizens will be able to access it through theapp per smartphone Io.

At the basis of this revolution, therefore, there would be the desire to make our driving license readable easily and quickly, thanks to our mobile phone, in all countries of the European Union. The discourse, of course, is also true in reverse with our law enforcement agencies who will be able to easily check the licenses issued in other European states.

As mentioned, the goal is to simplify the controls but not only. This digitization of the driving license will also have positive effects on drivers who will no longer have to carry paper identification documents with them.

All our data, in fact, will be available in the specific wallet of our smartphone, thus being constantly at hand. If there are no hitches, then, this new technology should come into force from next year, at least as regards Italy.

This revolution will take effect from 2023

As said by doing so we will take a further leap forward into the future. But don’t worry for those who just can’t get along with technology. As we have seen for the Green Passin fact, too the QR Code of the driving license can be printed.

Among other things, the hypothesis is taking hold that these new licenses can also be used to speed up the passage to the toll booth, which has always been a real nightmare for Italians.

In any case, from now on we will be able to transfer our sensitive data to the mobile phone through websites or specific apps. For example, the site Aci, it takes an entire area dedicated to our driving license. Here we will be able to consult at any time how many points we currently have on the license, its expiry date or even the number plates of all the cars we own.
