Drivers rating according to the results of the Eifel Grand Prix

British Sky Sports reporters praised the performance of the drivers at the Eifel Grand Prix …

Lewis Hamilton: 9

260 races, 91 wins, repetition of Michael Schumacher’s record. Lewis Hamilton does not think to stop there and will soon become the most successful racer of all time.

At the same time, Lewis did not demonstrate all his skills during the shortened weekend at the Nurburgring. In qualifying, he quite a lot, two tenths, lost to team-mate Valtteri Bottas. In a race where results really matter, Lewis pulled himself together and performed perfectly and ruthlessly towards his team-mate.

Lewis was close to leading the race in the first corner, but met with stiff resistance from Valtteri. However, Bottas made a mistake on lap 13, and Lewis did not wait for an invitation to take advantage of the situation.

Leading the race, Hamilton quickly created a lead over the peloton, which was offset by the departure of the safety car. However, after the restart, Lewis was in control of the situation and brought the race to victory, coming one step closer to the seventh title.

Max Verstappen: 9

Another brilliant performance by Max Verstappen. This season, he climbs to the podium every time the car does not fail, demonstrating impressive stability.

Max finished second again, but Red Bull’s speed is encouraging ahead of the rest of the season. Verstappen was a serious candidate for pole position until the tires lost traction in the qualifying finals. In the race, he could not go at the pace of Lewis, but still was at a short enough distance to keep Hamilton in good shape.

If Red Bull continues to close the gap, then next year we can witness a full-fledged struggle between the two best drivers of the championship.

Daniel Riccardo: 9.5

Daniel did not climb the podium with the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix, while Renault had to wait almost ten years to finish in the top three. It is fair to say that Riccardo’s podium was a matter of time. Nobody in this season more often than the Australian finished fourth (three times), and the riders ahead of him at the finish objectively have faster technique.

In qualifications, Riccardo is ahead of Esteban Ocon by a score of 10-1. In the race on the first lap, he overtook Alex Elbon, then passed Charles Leclair. In the last laps, Daniel could have had a fight with Sergio Perez, but the safety car helped him change tires and, after restarting, did not let the Mexican go forward.

Daniel finished his last season at Red Bull in sixth place in the individual competition. Now he is in fourth place along with Renault.

Sergio Perez: 8.5

Another brilliant performance by Sergio, which showed which driver Formula 1 will lose if he does not find a place for himself next season. In addition to fourth place in the race, he has earned points in the races in which he started for the fifteenth time in a row – the best result in his entire career. The race for Sergio could have been even better if it had not been for the departure of the safety car.

In qualifying, Perez only showed ninth time, but a long stretch on Soft in the race brought him back into the fight. Sergio still has good chances for fourth place in the individual standings at the end of the season.

Carlos Science: 7

The Nürburgring race was full of retirements in the middle of the peloton, which allowed Carlos Sainz to finish fifth, but we hardly saw him at a distance.

Carlos qualified behind Lando Norris. In fact, only his partner Sainz overtook on the track during the race, when the Englishman had problems with the engine.

The novelties prepared by the team did not help return to the fight against Renault. After the restart, Carlos was more concerned with defending against Pierre Gasly rather than attacking Riccardo and Perez. Nevertheless, ten points in the race is not a bad result.

Pierre Gasly: 8

Pierre Gasly’s victory at Monza will still be remembered for a long time, but the sixth place at the Eifel Grand Prix was the second best result of the AlphaTauri driver this season, although after qualifying there was little that boded a successful race.

Gasly was unable to reach the qualifying final, and then also lost two positions in the first laps. However, a stretch of 30 laps on Medium tires helped him recoup. After the restart, Pierre went eighth, but in the last laps he overtook Roman Grosjean and Charles Leclair.

Charles Leclair: 8

After a successful qualification, Charles had to take a defensive position in the race, as the speed of Ferrari did not allow to count on much. Leclair was upset when he was overtaken by Pierre Gasly after the restart, but after the finish he admitted that “seventh place is the maximum for today.”

Against the background of the problems of Sebastian Vettel, Charles Leclair looked like one of the best riders in the past weekend.

Nico Hulkenberg: 9.5

Who will you call if you need a driver urgently? Niko Hulkenberg! For the third time this season, Niko has received an invitation to sit behind the wheel – this time Lance Stroll had health problems.

In qualifying, Hulkenberg was predictably unable to show anything, since he did not even participate in an hour-long training. But in the race, thanks to his piloting and the innovations prepared by the team, Niko was able to reach the eighth place, bringing the Racing Point an important four points.

See you next time, Niko …

Roman Grosjean: 8.5

At the Nurburgring, Roman interrupted his unsuccessful streak and earned points for the first time in 21 races. Excellent result for a Haas rider who suffered a rock injury in the race.

Grosjean’s ninth place was made possible largely thanks to the courageous decision to stay on the track when the safety car exited. When the rivals went to the pits, Roman won back four positions. In the last laps, Roman did not give Antonio Giovinazzi a single chance to overtake himself.

Antonio Giovinazzi: 8

Perhaps Antonio’s future in Alfa Romeo is already a foregone conclusion, but in Germany the Italian driver returned to the top ten and earned points for the second time this season.

For the first time this year, Antonio reached the second part of qualification, which clearly gave him confidence. On the first lap, he climbed from 14th to 11th place, had a great race and guaranteed himself tenth place.

Sebastian Vettel: 5

For the seventh time in a row, Sebastian was unable to reach the qualifying final and again did not earn points. Vettel’s problems in 2020 continue, and the best result of his weekend was summed up by Nico Rosberg: “Sebastian made a false start – he was lucky that he was not fined. He was spun twice over the weekend, driving half a second slower than Leclair. It couldn’t have been worse. “

Kimi Raikkonen: 5

Charles Leclair overtakes Kimi Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen became the most accomplished driver in Formula 1 history with 323 starts. On this, all the positive results of the weekend for the Finn ended.

In qualifying, he showed 19th time, in the race he received a 10-second penalty for colliding with George Russell. The twelfth place at the finish line, despite all the problems, can be considered an acceptable result.

Kevin Magnussen: 6.5

Kevin Magnussen reached the second part of qualification only for the third time this season and had a strong first round, playing two positions. However, the two-pit stop strategy didn’t work, and he finished below team-mate Grosjean, who stopped once. In the last laps he was overtaken by Vettel and Raikkonen.

Nicholas Latifi: 6

A tough race at the Nurburgring for Nicholas Latifi. After the restart, he had to fight Vettel, Raikkonen and Kvyat. And if the first two overtook the Williams pilot, then Kvyat could not do anything with the Canadian. Good defense, but Williams again lacked speed during the weekend.

Daniil Kvyat: 6.5

Daniil Kvyat could have earned points at the Nurburgring, because he was driving immediately behind his partner, but hopes for a high result were dashed by a sharp maneuver by Alex Elbon, when a Red Bull Racing driver broke Daniel’s front wing. As a result, Kvyat lost a whole circle and after that he could not do anything.

Lando Norris: 7.5

Lando Norris fought for the podium, but problems with the power plant did not give us the opportunity to know what the result was possible. The McLaren driver retired when he finished sixth.

Alex Elbon: 5

Alex Elbon

A disastrous weekend for Alex Albon. Fifth place at the start is not so bad, but half a second behind the team-mate is another reason to be wary. On the first lap, Alex lost position and drove ahead of the scheduled time for a pit stop due to the fact that he spoiled the tire, blocking it under braking. Then there was an incident with Kvyat, for which Elbon was fined.

“Alex had a very bad weekend, – summed up Rosberg. “He was driving slowly and made too many mistakes – not at all the results he needs at the moment.”

Esteban Ocon: 6.5

At the moment of departure Esteban Ocon was driving behind Perez and Norris, but ahead of Sainz. Esteban had chances to finish in the top five, but in qualifying he again lost to his partner.

George Russell: 6

George Russell has run 32 races without earning points, but he often has bad luck on Sundays. Closer to the finish line, he could well have competed for tenth place, but his race ended after a collision with Kimi Raikkonen on the 12th lap.

Valtteri Bottas: 8

The victory in Russia gave Valtteri Bottas confidence, but he needed success at the Nurburgring to get back into the title fight. Finn in a brilliant style won pole position, and then at the start, in the first corner, he fiercely repulsed the attack of his partner.

However, then Bottas made a mistake and lost the lead, and after a few laps he completely retired due to the failure of the power plant. In fact, he only had a nominal chance of winning the championship.
