The young autistic train enthusiast was only 14 years old when he met the driver in 2000. “That boy was genuinely interested in the train. He knew more about it than I did, I thought that was very special. I was very proud of the train, ”said the train driver, who first took the boy to Brussels about three times before developing sexual feelings for him.

For years, the boy went on the train two to three times a month. In his report to the police, the now 34-year-old victim stated that they had sex in the train cabin and that he was allowed to drive the Thalys, while the driver orally satisfied him during the rides.

At the same time, the train driver was an important father figure in the life of the young train enthusiast, who had a victim statement read out in court by his lawyer. “If I had problems with my parents, I could contact you. If I had problems at school, you wanted to listen. If I didn’t have friends, you were there for me. If I didn’t have a safe place, I could go with you. ”

“I was weak. Not homeless but homeless. It became clear to you that that train made me happy. It should have stopped there. I can’t stand the smell of refreshment wipes anymore, I blame you. ”

The sexual abuse had a major impact on the victim’s life. The suspect is responsible for that, the public prosecutor told the court. “He did not take into account someone who was considerably younger.”

The suspect repented in court. “I wish I could do something about it. I can’t turn it back. I can only express my regret. ”

The court will rule on Thursday 24 December.
