It was a heavy blow on Sunday evening around 9 p.m. along Durmakker in Evergem. The driver of a passenger car, a 29-year-old man from Lievegem, veered off the road in the industrial area for an unclear reason and then drove into a parked semi-trailer. The victim was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by emergency services.
Miraculously, he survived the heavy blow, but he was seriously injured and taken to Ghent University Hospital. The vehicle was trapped under the semi-trailer for a long time and was freed with the help of a crane from the Lybaert towing company. That happened around 10:45 p.m. The roadway had been completely blocked since 9 p.m.
