Dramatic accident. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, a driver who had just forced a police roadblock mowed down a young woman, quai de la Mégisserie (1st), between the Pont Neuf and the Place du Châtelet, in Paris. Hit head-on while crossing a pedestrian crossing, the 24-year-old victim died. Despite the violence of the impact, the crazy vehicle continued on its way before being caught up a little later. Two men were taken into custody.
The business starts in the VIIIth arrondissement of the capital. According to police sources, it was around two o’clock when the driver of a vehicle ran into the police after refusing to obey their orders and fled. It is a few minutes later that the tragedy occurs. The driver arrives on the Mégisserie quay in a Volkswagen when he violently hits the young woman who was traveling on foot.
Chased by police on motorcycles
He was immediately chased by police on motorcycles who were patrolling the area. The driver’s mad dash will be short-lived. The fugitive hits a car and is forced to abandon his vehicle. He and his passenger then get out of the damaged car and flee on foot with the police on their heels. The crew first caught up with the passenger, at the intersection of the quai de Gesvres and the Notre-Dame bridge, and took aim at him. The latter surrenders. During this time, the driver continues his race. The man will also be arrested a little later.
They are still in police custody on Monday, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office, which has opened an investigation “on the count of involuntary homicide by driver of aggravated land motor vehicle, aggravated refusal to comply and attempted intentional homicide on person vested with public authority”. It was entrusted to the Judicial Accident Treatment Service (STJA).
The suspects from Val-de-Marne and Essonne
The police then returned to the victim, who was taken care of by the firefighters. But it is already too late. “This drama is terrible”, reacts Ariel Weil, the mayor (PS) of Paris Center, who was informed of this fatal accident overnight. “I regret that the police did not succeed in arresting the perpetrators during the first roadblock, before the murder, but I am very grateful to them for having finally caught them”, continues the city councilor, promising to ” closely monitor » the ongoing investigation. The two men are from Val-de-Marne and Essonne.
This drama is reminiscent of the tragic accident that cost the life of Antoine Alléno, the son of three-starred chef Yannick Alléno. The young man who was at the head of the restaurant “Burger Père et Fils” launched last year with his father, had been hit by a driver while his scooter was stopped at a red light, Sunday 11 May avenue Bosquet (VIIe), not far from his establishment. The driver was driving a car he had stolen from its owner. Antoine Alléno, 24, was killed instantly. The driver had fled and was arrested a little later by an off-duty commissioner. The 24-year-old man, who was drunk at the time, was indicted in particular for “homicide and involuntary injuries” and placed in pre-trial detention.
