A Cuban truck driver spent several hours trapped inside the vehicle after it crashed on a highway in the province of Granma.
The driver, identified as Yobanis Peña Soto, was trapped for four hours inside the cabin of the truck he was driving, after having an accident on a road in the municipality of Jiguaní, in the aforementioned province.
The events occurred around 2:40 pm this Friday, April 12, in Loma del Yarey, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which ended up overturning on the side of the road, among the grass and trees.
The Cuban was traveling with a companion who was immediately rescued with minor injuries, but he was trapped due to the damage suffered by the vehicle, whose dents and twisted iron left the driver trapped in the cabin.
First responders from the Granma fire department arrived at the scene. The Howo dump truck belonged to the Gelma Clearing and Construction Company, of the Ministry of Agriculture.
As reported on its social networks by the official media CNC TV Granma, the truck rushed down a slope, and the combination of weight and speed inclined it downhill, causing it to overturn.
After four hours trapped, the driver and his companion were taken to the hospital for medical evaluation, and both were reported out of danger.
Traffic accidents in Cuba are one of the constants, and in fact they have been increasing in recent years.
The poor condition of the roads, the lack of signage and poor lighting are the main causes pointed out by the population, although the government continues to attribute them to excessive speed and recklessness of drivers.
