Driver hits woman in NYC and runs away – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – A woman has died after being hit by not one, but two vehicles in Manhattan after a driver rammed her, dragging her several feet and sending her straight into an MTA bus, according to police.

A woman in her 20s and 30s was crossing the street at the intersection of 96th Street and Third Avenue on the Upper East Side at around 6 p.m., a senior police official said. She was at the crosswalk but she didn’t have a signal to walk, the police officer said, when a dark-colored sedan ran over her.

The impact of the crash sent the woman flying into an oncoming MTA express bus and sources said she was dragged about 25 feet along the track.

The driver of the dark sedan escaped soon after. The woman was taken to hospital where she died, police said. The victim has not been identified by police, as they said she did not have identification with her at the time of the incident.

The incident is being investigated while police are trying to identify the vehicle and driver involved. No arrests have yet been made.
