A high speed chase took place on the E19 towards Antwerp on Friday evening. A 24-year-old driver tried to escape an alcohol check in Mechelen and fled.

In his flight he also tried to drive some police cars off the track. The local police Mechelen-Willebroek immediately gave chase towards E19.
On the motorway it went fast towards Antwerp. There, speeds of up to 200 km / h were measured. Several police forces provided assistance, but the driver of the black Renault did not give up. At the Craeybeckx tunnel he took the Wilrijk exit, but just past the tunnel under the R11 the Antwerp police was already waiting for him with a nail mat.
The fleeing driver tried to avoid the police, but flew out of the corner and bumped into the crash barriers several times. The 24-year-old man was then run over and arrested. Why he fled is not yet clear.
Also at the beginning of this week there was already a chase that ended with a crash in Wilrijk. Even then, speeds of more than 200 kilometers per hour were achieved.
