Passenger critically injured

The man’s passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. A rescue helicopter took her to a clinic. Of the 48 passengers on the bus, twelve had to be treated in nearby hospitals. The coach was used as a rail replacement service for the closed Höllentalbahn.

The accident happened on the extended detour route of federal highway 31 through Höllental. This is currently still closed due to the blasting of a rock in danger of falling. In the meantime, traffic was supposed to be diverted to another route – but this also had to be closed because a working crane had overturned there.

Large contingent of rescue workers in action

Almost 80 rescue workers from the DRK, Malteser and mountain rescue service as well as numerous volunteers from all over the area were on duty to care for the injured. They also had to take care of road users who were stuck in traffic. However, the accident site was difficult to reach because of the various closures, according to Matthias Reinbold from the DRK district association in Freiburg, who was there with a rescue helicopter, ambulance and three emergency doctors, among other things.

Other accident victims cared for in the Black Forest Hall

The municipality of St. Märgen made the Black Forest Hall available for the care and provision of the 42 people who had escaped with the shock of the accident. They were given drinks and snacks and were picked up from there by replacement buses or relatives. The operation lasted until 11:30 p.m. The police were able to release the L128 around 2 a.m. Previously broken down trucks had blocked the route.
