A bus crashed this Tuesday, April 9, into a house in the province of Pinar del Río, causing the death of the driver and leaving several people injured.
According to state journalist Osbel Benítez Polo, from Tele Pinarthe incident occurred during the morning, at kilometer 7 of the highway that leads to La Coloma.
The transport vehicle was heading towards the provincial capital, but lost control and crashed into a house in the area. The four injured were three passengers of a horse cart who were passing through the area at the time of the accident, and one person who was inside the home.
They were taken to the provincial hospital to receive medical attention. According to the official media Guerrilla, the injured were identified as: Lidis Martínez Martínez, 40 years old; Eduardo Ferro Roque, 71; Mildrey Fariñas Loaces, 45 years old; and Andrés Fariñas Loaces, 50 years old.
These remain in the hospital waiting to receive medical discharge, according to Dr. Yoan Álvarez Rivera, director of the Abel Santamaria Cuadrado hospital.
After the incident, the first secretary in the province, Yamile Ramos Cordero, went to the scene, but did not share information about it on social networks, so her contribution to the situation is unknown.
At the moment, the investigation by the authorities continues, and it is expected that in the following days they will share more details such as the reason why the vehicle lost control.
Deceased driver
The incident was shared in the Facebook group “Bus Drivers Forever,” where a photograph of the deceased was published.
“Today an excellent friend, father, neighbor and driver leaves this world, who was also a founding member of this family of ‘Bus Drivers Forever’, victim of a fatal accident,” reads the post shared by the user. Loren Vazquez.
“How sad this news is. My most sincere condolences to all family and friends, may God give him that well-deserved eternal rest,” he added.
Among the comments, several noted that the deceased was known for having a cheerful and friendly attitude, which often earned the trust of those who were lucky enough to know or work with him.
The official press has not revealed the identity of the deceased, and while the publication does not name him either, a brief search managed to reveal that it was Gabriel Pérez Cruz, who left behind a little girl.
Some Internet users also revealed that, on the day of the accident, their daughter would be celebrating her first birthday, something that could be confirmed on their social networks.
