YOGYAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – A total of 13 people died in a tourism bus accident that occurred on Jalan Imogiri-Mangunan, precisely under Bukit Bego, Imogiri, Bantul, DI Yogyakarta, Sunday (6/2/2022) afternoon. The victims who died included the bus driver.
The green tourist bus with the AD-1507-EK number plate was badly damaged on the right side due to hitting a cliff.
Bantul Police Chief AKBP Ihsan said the number of victims was 47 people, 13 of whom died. According to Ihsan, the accident was triggered by a vehicle that was not strong enough to climb.
“So we have met the victims and witnesses who survived. According to his testimony, the driver was nervous because the vehicle was not strong enough to climb up and finally hit the road divider,” said the Chief of Police.
“There are 13 people who died, including the driver, from these 13 there are four victims who have not been identified, then there are 3 toddlers who survived this incident,” he continued.
Ihsan also said that the bus which was intended to carry out tourism activities was unable to climb and lower passengers.
“After going from Breksi to the pine forest and passing the TKP, the vehicle that was going to climb Bego Hill, which is an incline, was not strong enough, that’s the testimony of the witness,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the witness at the scene who is a local resident, Bahriah, admitted that he heard a loud crash when the incident occurred.
