Driver Arrested in Ludwigshafen for Drunk Driving and Fleeing the Scene of an Accident

Ludwigshafen (ots)

On Friday, June 16, 2023, around 3:00 p.m., a black vehicle without an official license plate was reported, which was also noticed by other road users because of its conspicuous driving style (snaking lines, driving over red traffic lights). The vehicle was a black VW Passat passenger car. The vehicle was stopped and checked by a police patrol on Bruchwiesenstrasse. The vehicle had significant damage to the front. Furthermore, the windscreen was cracked in several places, the driver and front passenger airbags were deployed. When the 56-year-old driver from Dannstadt-Schauernheim opened the vehicle door, the officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol. A voluntary breath alcohol test showed a value of 0.85 per thousand. In another alcohol test 10 minutes later, the value increased to 0.93 per thousand. It was also determined that the driver has not had a driver’s license for 8 years. A visual inspection of the car’s significant front damage revealed that the water cooler was damaged and leaking fluid. The driver could not say where the accident happened. Due to the damage to the vehicle radiator, the police officers assume that the accident probably happened in the city of Ludwigshafen. The scene of the accident has not yet been identified. After a doctor took a blood sample from the driver at the local police station, the 56-year-old driver was able to leave the police station again.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against the driver for endangering road traffic in connection with drunkenness, driving away from a traffic accident and driving without a license.

Witnesses, especially those who witnessed the accident, are asked to contact the Ludwigshafen Police Inspectorate 1, Tel. 0621 963-2122 or email [email protected]
