Driver Arrested for Drunk Driving, Killing Two in Long Island Crash

NEW YORK — Authorities arrested a driver suspected of driving drunk and killing two people over the weekend after colliding with the car where the victims were in Nassau County, Long Island, police announced.

Sotirios Spanos, 32, was charged with aggravated vehicular manslaughter, two counts of second degree manslaughter, two counts of second degree assault, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

The deadly crash occurred at 12:30 a.m. Saturday in Laurel Hollow when Spanos, who was reportedly intoxicated, was driving an Acura eastbound on Northern Boulevard in the vicinity of Moored Hill Road when he crossed the yellow divider and collided with a 2013 Ferrari Convertible traveling west.

The passenger in the Ferrari, a 37-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police doctor. The driver, a 37-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. The identity of the victims and the relationship between them has not been revealed.

A subsequent investigation revealed that defendant Spanos, who remained at the scene, was intoxicated at the time of the accident and was placed under arrest without incident.

This case remains under investigation.
