– There have been a number of downhill runs in the district. Drive carefully, West Police District wrote on Twitter late Sunday night.

The South-West police district also reports difficult driving conditions in the district.

– It is freezing rain and when it hits the ground it freezes to ice and forms a life-threatening film, they write on Twitter at 23.50.

The South-East police district also reports slippery roads in several places.

“Really difficult driving conditions”

Also at the mountain passes there are challenging driving conditions.

– It gets really bad for quite a long time at the mountain passes in fact. It is already a column and closed in some places, but even though the weather is quite bad already, it is not as bad as it should be, said state meteorologist Magni Svanevik at the Meteorological Institute to VG on Sunday.

She reports a strong gale and a lot of snow and snowdrifts. Which gives “really difficult driving conditions”. Especially Sunday afternoon and evening. Unfortunately, it seems to continue on Monday. Especially north of Haukeli, says the meteorologist.

– Tuesday also really looks like this. But from Haukeli and south it will be easier from tomorrow.

– So it is better to drive over Haukeli then, for those it is possible for?

– Yes, that’s enough. But there will be a lot of snow tonight, so there may be some snowfall there as well, says Svanevik.

NB! See directions further down in the case.

– Plan the trip

Traffic operator Christofa Key-Nilsen at Vegtrafikksentralen Øst thinks it might be a good idea to wait until Monday before crossing the mountain. At least if you can wait. Regardless, she recommends that everyone make a proper assessment before making a decision.

– No matter which of the days you travel, there can be long queues due to convoy driving, or closed roads. In that case, it can mean long detours for many, warns the traffic operator.

Her clear advice is to bring extra food and warm clothes in the car, as well as make sure to provide plenty of fuel or electricity to the car.

– Plan your trip simply, says Key-Nilsen.

Here it is closed and open

Several mountain passes and roads have been closed as a result of the storm in the last 24 hours. Around midnight Monday night it looked like this:

  • E134 Haukelifjell (Tyrveli barrier to Liamyrane barrier) column driving.
  • Highway 7 Hardangervidda closed.
  • Highway 13 Vikafjellet closed – new assessment at. 12 Monday.
  • Highway 52 HEmsedalsfjellet column driving.
  • Fylkesvei 27 Venabygdsfjellet closed.
  • Fyklkesvei 50 Hol – Aurland closed. New assessment at 08 Monday.
  • Fylkesvei 51 Valdresflye closed.
  • Fylkesvei 53 Tyin – Årdal closed.
  • Fylkesvei 55 Sognefjellet (Rustasætre barrier to Sognefjellshytta) – closed – new assessment Tuesday.
  • Fylkesvi 2814 Imingfjell – closed

Storms also in the north

Europavei 69 between Skarsvåg and Nordkapp is closed on Sunday afternoon due to bad weather. The road will not be opened on Sunday.

On Fylkesvei 890 Kongsfjordfjellet and Fylkesvei 891 Båtsfjordfjellet there is convoy driving due to the storm.

On E6 over Kvænangsfjellet was also closed until Sunday night, but at 11.30 it is reported that the road is open. The driving conditions are admittedly difficult due to reduced visibility. E6 over Gratangfjellet is also open.

Both in Møre og Romsdal and on Helgeland, a large avalanche danger has been announced on Sunday, and from Monday also in Trollheimen, Romsdal, Sunnmøre and Indre Fjordane.

Bad in the lowlands too

State meteorologist Magni Svanevik says that it is Trøndelag and to the south we first and foremost notice the low pressure that has now entered the country.

– It will not be too bad in northern Norway. They may get periods of some sun the next few days, but it will probably vary a bit. There will also be precipitation, which in the interior will come as snow.

– We have sent out warnings about snowy weather in Trøndelag, Møre og Romsdal and Vestland. It may come as sleet along the coast. Then it will be a little easier in Rogaland, but some showers and a lot of wind you have to reckon with, says Svanevik.
