Walking through the main wing of the Casa de Sezim, a mansion with guest rooms in the Minho region of northern Portugal, can become a virtual journey in fast motion – you jump from the old to the new world. The places and figures are shown on canvas, but above all on artistic wallpaper. All the wall coverings in these four rooms were created between 1750 and 1860. They reveal a lot about the former colonial power Portugal on the edge of Europe and their view of themselves, are evidence of early self-historicization and identity politics. Most of the precious motif wallpapers were made in the Alsatian manufactory Züber, which today primarily supplies wealthy customers in Asia and the Emirates.
