Drinking water company Vitens on low water pressure: ‘Be extra economical in the near future’ | NOW

Drinking water company Vitens warns that the water pressure could drop considerably on Saturday evening because much more water is used than normal in the warm weather. Customers are therefore urged to stop watering gardens and filling swimming pools.

Vitens also hopes that people will shower as short as possible, only switch on the washing machine at night and not wash cars. The call applies to the current warm period, which lasts until Wednesday.

Vitens supplies drinking water in five provinces and has a total of more than five million customers. “We call on all customers to be extra thrifty with water to prevent water pressure from decreasing,” confirms a spokesperson after reporting by the WE.

Since Wednesday, Vitens customers have been using much more water than usual. About 1 billion liters are consumed on a normal day. That is now 1.4 billion liters. The largest increase was measured in Overijssel and Gelderland. According to the spokesman, this has to do with the many recreational opportunities in these provinces.

If the water pressure is lowered, it can happen that only a small trickle of water comes out of the shower head when taking a shower. According to Vitens, it is important that everyone uses their drinking water wisely during this warm period.

Although the water pressure has never completely fallen due to people consuming massive amounts of water due to high temperatures, this could theoretically happen. The spokesperson emphasizes that Vitens would like to prevent this.
