The researchers evaluated the results as scientifically proving the relationship between water intake and health.
According to the medical community on the 28th, a team of professors at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) recently published the results of a study identifying the relationship between water intake and health in the international academic journal Zama Network.
Water intake paper: For good health, it is generally recommended that you drink about 8 glasses of water a day. However, there were various disputes over this.
“The evidence for simple health guidelines was not clear and the benefits were unclear, so further analysis was needed,” said UCSF Professor Benjamin Breyer, adding, “This study is the first to broadly evaluate the benefits of water consumption.” explained.
The researchers conducted the study by analyzing 18 of 1,464 studies that evaluated the effects of water intake on health. Through this study, we obtained evidence that drinking water helps prevent kidney stones and reduce weight.
Based on the results of a study that asked adults to drink an additional 2,000 ml of water every day, they concluded that if adults drink 8 glasses of water a day, the risk of kidney stone recurrence is significantly reduced.
In the study, in the group that drank enough water to produce about 2,000 ml of urine per day, recurrence of kidney stones occurred in 12 out of 99 people. In the control group, 27 out of 100 patients relapsed.

Based on this, the researchers recommended that people with stones should increase their water intake to the point where their urine output is at least 2.5 liters.
It has been found that drinking about 6 glasses of water a day can help adults lose weight. However, even if teenagers drank more than 8 cups a day, there was no significant effect on weight loss.
The research team analyzed four studies to examine the relationship between water intake and weight loss. Through this, in a study that lasted 12 weeks to 12 months, it was confirmed that the group that drank 1,500 mL more water every day lost weight.
The research team explains that by consuming about 500 mL of water before eating, older people can consume 111 kcal less energy when eating. By drinking water, you can reduce energy intake when eating by about 13%. They evaluated that drinking water before meals can be a great help in weight management as it is a relatively easy habit.
Water intake was also helpful in managing migraines, diabetes, and low blood pressure. Adults with recurring headaches increased their water intake for three months and their migraine symptoms improved.
The researchers explained that diabetic patients with high blood sugar levels should drink about four glasses of water a day, and women with recurrent urinary tract infections should drink six more glasses. For young people with low blood pressure, drinking more water helped improve blood pressure levels.
Professor Breyer said, “Dehydration is not good for people with a history of kidney stones or urinary tract infections. However, if you suffer from frequent urination, it is better to drink less water.” The idea is that although drinking water can help with some diseases, you should not think that only drinking a lot of water is good.
