The National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) and Sonangol’s Exploration and Production Business Unit (UNEP) will begin, within a week, the drilling on land (Onshore) of the Tubias oil well, located in the commune of Cabo Ledo, in Luanda.
The revelation was made this Friday, the 1st, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonangol, Sebastião Martins, on the sidelines of the visit to verify the aforementioned pod. that there are large oil reserves, capable of increasing the country’s export quantities.
The oil to be removed from the Tubias reservoir will be taken to the Luanda refinery for processing, according to Sebastião Martins. Technical procedures are currently underway to guarantee the execution of the contract within the safety and environmental standards required in the industry . The execution of operations in the Block, which had been inactive since 1996, is the responsibility of the consortium formed by Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção (with 30%), as operator, Brite’s Oil and Gas (with 25%), Grupo Simples Oil and Atlas Petroleum Exploration Worldwide (which hold 20% each), as well as Omega Risk Solutions Angola (with 5%).
This is a concession awarded within the framework of the 2020 Tender. In the event of promising results after drilling, the consortium should proceed with the survey of geological and geophysical data (G&G) with the objective of improving the mapping of the structures in the Block, without jeopardize preliminary development aimed at restarting production. The resumption of exploration activities in Block KON11 represents an important milestone for the Angolan oil industry, as it brought about the reactivation of operations in an onshore block without activities since the 1990s due to the adverse context of the time.
