Drifts during the electoral period: Alexandre Awassi calls for restraint Drifts during the electoral period: Alexandre Awassi calls for restraint

Libreville, Wednesday, July 17, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – During a press conference given yesterday, the outgoing MP for 2e district of the commune of Moanda in Haut-Ogooué stigmatized the excesses recorded during this period and called on political actors to take more responsibility.

Faced with the rise in hate speech and personal attacks observed for some time in the public square and even on the web a few weeks before the general elections in Gabon, Alexandre Awassi has stepped up to the plate. During a press conference he gave yesterday, the outgoing MP for 2e
district of the commune of Moanda in Haut-Ogooué denounced these excesses which threaten social peace and living together and invited everyone to show fair play and more responsibility. For peaceful elections, he invites the members of the Gabonese Elections Center “to show diligence and impartiality so that these elections are free, transparent and inclusive so as to offer our compatriots an appreciable height of political experience”. As for the political class, it must show “restraint and responsibility during these electoral contests to avoid clashes”.

Alexandre Awassi thus asks his compatriots not to “fall into the trickery of politicians who are losing momentum”. “The latter prefer to immerse you very often in the sensational through speeches strongly filled with hatred and vices without even worrying about the irreversible consequences for our Nation”, he denounced. According to him, the unfortunate events recorded at the end of the proclamation of the results of the presidential election of 2016 “not only set back the development of the country, but also weaken national unity”.
