Last Saturday it was announced that Dirk Jan van der Zee was the top candidate to succeed Paul van der Kraan as general manager of FC Twente. The news led to resistance among supporters and, according to De Telegraaf and Tubantia, also in the workplace of FC Twente. As a result, Van der Zee is no longer the top candidate, but Jeroen Bijl.
Valentijn Driessen will announce this on Tuesday evening at the table at Inside today. “I think the Supervisory Board is meeting as we speak to elect a new director,” said the head of sports of De Telegraaf.
Bijl was a volleyball international in the past and later successful general manager at PEC Zwolle. He was also technical director at the Dutch hockey association. “He left there as a result of reports of cross-border behavior by the national coach,” says Driessen. “Bijl seems to be the most important candidate and they hope to be able to beat it tonight.”
