No new CFDA award for Dries Van Noten. The Belgian fashion designer was nominated in two categories, but had to give up Pierpaolo Piccioli and Kim Jones.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), the organization of American designers, also presented its annual fashion awards at the start of Fashion Week in New York. Big winners were Gabriela Hearst (designer of the year, women’s fashion), Kerby Jean-Raymond van Pyer Moss (designer of the year, menswear) and Telfar Clemens (designer of the year, accessories). Christopher John Rogers was awarded as a newcomer.
For all four it is the first time that they have been awarded at the CFDA. It is also the most diverse group of winners in the 39-year history of the fashion awards, the organization said. Rogers is an African American designer from Louisiana, Jean-Raymond has Haitian roots and Clemens’ parents are from Liberia. Hearst is a white designer born in Uruguay.
Our fellow countryman Dries Van Noten was also nominated in two categories, but dropped out. Valentino designer Pierpaolo Piccioli was awarded in the international designer for women’s fashion category, while Dior Homme designer Kim Jones made it in the same category for men’s fashion. In 2008, Van Noten was awarded by the CFDA as international designer of the year.
