Drew McIntyre was out of action for several weeks in early 2022 with a neck injury that had been dragging on for some time. The former WWE champion managed to return in time for Royal Rumble, however, as it has been known, the Scotsman has not been fighting 100%, and WWE decided to dose McIntyre while he finished recovering considering that WrestleMania will be held in a few weeks.
Initially, the idea was for McIntyre to only compete in Premium Live Events (PPV’s) and in small matches on weekly shows, however, WWE has decided to add some additional dates to the calendar, and he will participate in several house shows this month. This has been the information shared by the specialized media Wrestling Observer:
“Originally, the plan for McIntyre was to only work on PPVs and do soft matches on television heading into WrestleMania, but for this weekend’s live shows, WWE has New Day and McIntyre vs. Reigns and Los Uso scheduled for the 26th in Youngston, Ohio, and the 27th in Rochester, New York. They are also promoting a Reigns vs. McIntyre title match on some television tapings, although they don’t usually do the matches they promote.”
Last Saturday, McIntyre defeated Madcap Moss in WWE Elimination Chamber, and has also participated in several unaired matches after the SmackdDown tapings on February 4 and 11. McIntyre has been in a feud with Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss for several weeks now, and WWE may end up scheduling a match between Corbin and McIntyre for WrestleMania.
