The New Orleans Saints are still hopeful about that Drew Brees may return from his injury this week, however Headcoach Sean Payton knows his quarterback still has a “way to go”.
“We haven’t made a decision just because we don’t have to,” Payton said on Wednesday.
He still has a long way to go, and he’s someone we won’t just get back and put into play quickly. “
“I think the injury is so important that you have to make sure he can work and feel safe.”
Brees has missed the last four games after breaking a whopping 11 ribs and collapsing lungs in Week 10. He was placed on the Injured Reserve on November 20th.
The Saints took Brees off the IR on Wednesday, allowing him to train with the team.
New Orleans won three of the four games without the future Hall of Famer. Taysom Hill made 71.9% of his pass attempts, throwing passes for four touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran 209 yards and four scores.
The Saints (10-3) have already secured a playoff spot, but are currently fighting for first place in the NFC, which would bring them a bye week in the playoffs. In the conference ranking, the team is in second place behind the Green Bay Packers.
With the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week, the winning streak of New Orleans (nine games in a row) was interrupted. Getting back on Victory Road won’t be easy as Week 15 will face the Kansas City Chiefs, who have also won eight straight.
