Drew Barrymore’s talk show continues despite the major strike in Hollywood. The actress says that the writers of Drew will not participate as long as there is a strike, but the Writers Guild of America (WGA) union still plans to demonstrate.

A major strike is currently underway in Hollywood, initiated by the writers’ union and actors’ union SAG-AFTRA. As a result, almost all major productions in Hollywood are at a standstill. It is not only about films and series, but also about talk shows, because writers create items for that.

According to Barrymore, the writers are not working on the fourth season of her talk show Drew, the first episode of which is scheduled for September 18. There will also be no actors participating to promote their new film.

“I fully support this choice,” the actress and talk show host said in a statement Instagram. She points out that the show premiered during the corona period, a time when many people were having a harder time.

“I hope to contribute to what the writers do so well: a way to bring us together. And that there will be a solution soon for everyone affected by this.” The actress showed her support for the strikes in May when she decided not to present the MTV Movie & TV Awards ceremony.

Union will demonstrate outside the studio

The decision is not well received by the WGA writers’ union. Although Barrymore and the team are adhering to the rules, the union plans to demonstrate outside the studio. “We will do this with every program recorded during the strike,” a WGA spokesperson said The Hollywood Reporter know.

Scriptwriters in Hollywood have now been on strike for more than 130 days because they want better pay. They also want higher compensation for screenings on streaming services and better rules for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in making films and series.

Actors’ union SAG-AFTRA later joined the strike. As a result, countless productions are now on hold.
