Drew Barrymore says he never wants to get married again after three failed marriages. “Never, never, never, never. Absolutely not,” said the actress in conversation with People.
“I’m never a fan of people who use the word ‘never’, but I do. Never will I get married again,” said the 45-year-old actress.
According to Barrymore, it is simple and there are two choices for her: “Quit getting married because it doesn’t work or, like Elizabeth Taylor, keep trying. In that case, I still have a lot to do.” Taylor was married eight times in her life.
Barrymore first married Jeremy Thomas in 1994, but divorced two months later. In 2001 she married comedian Tom Green. This marriage ended after only five months. Ten years later, she got married to Will Kopelman, with whom she had two daughters: Frankie (7) and Olive (6). They broke up in 2016.
‘Marriage complicates relationship’
According to Barrymore, marriage makes the breakup a lot more complicated. “If you are in a normal relationship and you break up, you just go on living. With marriage you have to go through a whole divorce and it’s a completely different story.”
“I like that we’re trying to maintain an institution that started when your partner lived far from you and you were only thirty years old,” says Barrymore.
Still, the actress, who starts her own talk show, does not rule out a new relationship. “It may well be that within a year I will be hopelessly in love again. I am open to it, but do not actively search for it.”
