The appearance of the ‘child’ train at Kroya Station, Cilacap, Central Java attracted public attention. This happened after a video was uploaded showing a small train passing through a station. The shape of the train is so small that netizens are annoyed and call it a ‘child’ train.
According to the explanation from PT Kereta Api Indonesia aka KAI, the small train is called a dresin, which is a small railroad vehicle that has its own propulsion.
According to KAI VP Public Relations Joni Martinus, dresin is used by KAI to carry out inspections and directly monitor railway infrastructure such as the condition of rail lines, bridges, tunnels, signalling, the condition of level crossings and stations.
In short, the use of dresin is certainly closely related to improving the safety and service of train travel along the route.
“We always want to ensure and ensure that the condition of the railway infrastructure is in really good condition in detail, including the safety of track width, condition of bearings, bridges or tunnels, that’s why dresin is used,” said Joni to detikcomSunday (8/10/2023).
Dresin is also often used to carry out routine maintenance and inspections of railway infrastructure.
In the video circulating, the small train can be seen passing through Kroya Station, Cilacap, Central Java. The video appears to have been taken from the station platform.
The small train was white, small in shape, and its doors were even lower than the station platform. The passing train had two trains in one series with Daop 5 Purwokerto written on the back of each train.
