Freiburg / Dresden. Despite a good performance, a three-time lead and four away goals, the Dresden Ice Lions return home empty-handed. In the short-term rescheduled game against the Freiburg Wolves, Rico Rossi’s protégés had to admit defeat 4: 5 (1: 1, 3: 2, 0: 2) in the end. The blue-whites are still waiting for their first win on foreign ice. “That hurts because I can’t blame the boys. We played a good away game, but we received weird goals. We have to tick that off, ”said Rico Rossi. On Sunday, the Dresdeners are now expecting the Ravensburg Towerstars at home (5 p.m.).

As before, Rico Rossi had to do without Steve Hanusch, Arne Uplegger, Alexander Dotzler and Vladislav Filin. At the beginning of the game, the home side created a few chances, but then Nick Pageau had to go into the “cool box”. A little later there was a lot of bustle in front of the Freiburg Gate and Jordan Knackstedt put the puck in the mesh. However, he used the left skate to kick the disc over the line. Following video evidence, the referees consequently decided that this goal did not count. But only a few seconds later it worked. After preliminary work by Evan Trupp, Knackstedt now nets in accordance with the rules to make it 1-0 (12th). The joy was short-lived. Exactly 35 seconds later, Jake Ustorf marked the 1: 1 equalization.

That’s what happened to the first tea break. In the second half the home side got off to a better start. With a slap shot from the blue line, Patrick Kurz made it 2-1 (25th) and thus the Breisgau’s first lead. But the blue-whites struck back twice and showed that the work on the special teams this week has paid off. First Nick Huard used a power play to make it 2-2 (34th) and just two minutes later the outnumbered Eislöwen started a counterattack. Nick Huard was again significantly involved, and in the end he was a perfect fit for René Kramer, who ran along with the puck to make it 3-2.

But the target shooting continued. Marvin Neher was able to equalize to 3: 3 three minutes before the second break, but in the next superiority game Evan Trupp brought Dresden back in front with a 4: 3 (40th). But in the final third, the Freiburg team turned the game up again with two goals within a minute. First, ex-ice lion Chris Billich hit the short corner to make it 4: 4 (49th), then Andrée Hult used a power play to make it 5: 4. Two minutes before the end, Rico Rossi took a break, then ordered Riku Helenius in favor of another field player from the ice, but it was no longer effective. The hosts even had two chances to make everything clear with a goal in the empty goal, but just missed the goal.
