Dresden. With immediate effect, VC Dresden will cease training and match operations for the men’s team in the 2nd Bundesliga and all junior squads. Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer had expressly stated in his declaration on the lockdown in the Free State from December 14th that professional sport was still exempt from the restrictions.
However, the VC Dresden refers to a corona exception regulation of the volleyball Bundesliga, which makes it possible for clubs in places with an incidence value of 200 or more to cancel games. In a press release, the club also explains that some players live and work in the neighboring districts of Bautzen and Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains and at least one of them is in quarantine, as he is classified as a suspected corona case or contact person 1.
In view of the increasing number of cases, especially in East Saxony, the second division side also feels responsible. “Under these conditions, we as an association consider it essential that each and every one of us has to make his or her contribution to reversing the pandemic development in Saxony together and in solidarity,” it says.
