Dresden: Ralf Minge shows the new Heinz-Steyer-Stadium | Sport

Dresden, a city of sport! There is impressive proof of this on Friday with the inauguration of the completely renovated Heinz Steyer Stadium.

A multifunctional arena of the finest quality was built for 56 million euros. Dynamo legend Ralf Go (63), new department head of the Ostra sports park: “A very charming facility in this great area with many possibilities.” The fact that there is still some work to be done does not dampen the anticipation.

The former class striker continued: “Popular and elite sports will find their new home here. From fencing piste and squash courts to dance hall and office space, performance diagnostics and sports medicine, everything is there.”

The event kicks off with the resurrection of a world-class athletics event: The Golden Oval. Top athletes will compete for victory in ten disciplines.

Among them were 100-meter sprinter Jerome Blake, who won Olympic gold in the relay with Canada in Paris, as well as Rebekka Haase and Lisa Meyer, who sprinted over the same distance to bronze for Germany.

Many celebrities also in the stands: Long jump legend Heike Dreschsler (jumped 7.45 m world record in the Steyer Stadium in 1986) comes just like the sprinters Marlies Göhr and Renate Stechershot putter Ulf Timmermannjavelin thrower Evelin Jahl and triple jumper Lutz Dombrowski.

Former top athletes from Dresden such as Hagen Melzer (3000m steeplechase) or Ramona Raulf-Neubert (heptathlon) are also guests of honour at the Steyer Stadium included.

The opening ceremony will take place at 6 p.m., the competitions will begin at 7 p.m. The stadium in Dresden is almost sold out with 10,000 spectators, there are only remaining tickets available.

The Monarchs move in on Sunday

One day later, all curious people will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the new arena at the open day.

And on Sunday (3 p.m.) the Dresden Monarchs football players will take over their gem, affectionately known as “Heinz Field,” for the first time. The Bundesliga game against the Allgäu Comets is already sold out.
