Dresden – Young voices for Europe: The Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir would like to build musical bridges to France and Great Britain with a tour to mark the 30th anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty.
“With our European tour we want to give young people the opportunity to get to know their peers in other European countries, to exchange musically and personally and thereby strengthen their sense of the European idea,” said choir director Gunter Berger on Tuesday in Dresden. Friendships would certainly be made and relationships would develop – both between the choirs and on an interpersonal level.
The tour takes place from September 29th to October 8th. The first stop is Birmingham, where the choir meets in a workshop with the British conductor Simon Halsey – a world-renowned professor of choral conducting. The results of the workshop will then be presented in a joint concert with the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain in the Elgar Concert Hall.
The journey then takes you to Dresden’s oldest twin city, Coventry. The children’s choir wants to take part in a service in the cathedral and give a concert with its choir. After another workshop with the London Youth Choir, the Philharmonic Children’s Choir will give a concert on German Unity Day in St. Boniface Church in London.
A meeting with the children’s choir of the French Radio and a joint performance with the children’s choir of the Lycée International Saint-Germain-en-Laye are planned in Paris. Then we go to Strasbourg – another sister city of Dresden. A meeting will take place there in the EU Parliament, combined with a musical greeting from the children’s choir. There will also be a joint concert with the Petits Chanteurs de Strasbourg choir. At the finale of the tour, the choir will perform in Nuremberg.
The Maastricht Treaty came into force on November 1, 1993. The European community thus developed into a political association. The document is therefore also known as the Treaty on European Union.
