“With the first comprehensive study of this kind, we have taken an important step in the development of Dresden into an age-appropriate city,” says Social Mayor Kristin Kaufmann (45, Left).

This development is also necessary because more than one in four Dresdeners is now at least 60 years old. And of these, according to the study, 12 percent, i.e. about one in eight, are at risk of poverty.

Over 90 percent suffer from at least one chronic condition, such as high blood pressure, and nearly two-thirds are overweight. One in five is even obese.

There is just as much to do here as in the care facilities. Although the inpatient homes in Dresden are almost fully utilized, only a small increase in capacity is planned for them, as for the outpatient homes, in the next three years due to a lack of staff.

According to Kaufmann, the results are now being evaluated within the administration and measures are derived from them.
