Update, Tuesday 8 November: A total of 122 children and six 32nd primary school teachers have struggled with nausea and diarrhea since the end of last week. The city’s health department reports these figures on Tuesday. Norovirus was detected in the stool sample of one of the children.

It is not yet known how the virus was brought into the school and how it spread there. However, the city’s health department rules out that this is related to school food supplies. It is a viral infection.

This was known since Friday evening:

More than 100 children and teachers at a Dresden primary school complained of nausea and diarrhea on Wednesday and Thursday. This was reported by the city health department. There are 105 students and six teachers in total, so dozens have already had to be sent home.

It is the 32nd primary school “Sieben Schwaben” on Hofmannstrasse in Dresden-Blasewitz, attended by a total of 370 pupils.

The cause of the gastrointestinal disease is still unknown. To determine these, stool samples from patients and food staff should be evaluated. According to the city, the result is not expected until next week. Meanwhile the school has been disinfected. Among other things, the door handles, the school canteen and the toilets were cleaned.
