Dresden – Who is to blame for the collapse of the Carola Bridge? The people of Dresden want an answer. Several citizens have filed a complaint with the police against the mayor of construction, Stephan Kühn (45, Green Party), as well as against unknown persons.
The public prosecutor’s office is examining the charges for their criminal relevance. As senior public prosecutor Jürgen Schmidt (49) confirmed, the charges include property damage and endangering buildings.

Together with the police The aim is now to look for evidence of the “existence of a criminally relevant matter”.
Parts are still in the Elbe
A section of the Carola Bridge, which crossed the Elbe near Dresden’s old town, collapsed a week ago. No one was injured. The bridge on which the tram ran and a footpath and cycle path were located was affected.

Further parts of this bridge on the Neustadt side were brought to a controlled collapse, and the river bank was cleared of the demolition parts.
The original collapsed section and another concrete part are still in the Elbe. They can only be removed once the flood has subsided. According to the city’s road and civil engineering department, a concept for demolition is Dresden in progress.
