Dresden. It is probably Dresden’s largest advertising space and keeps causing a sensation with its spectacular giant murals: the house facade on Bautzner Strasse at the corner of Pulsnitzer. The firewall has already been painted with many motifs, which sometimes advertised a hardware store, sometimes a discounter, but also used an octopus with a stethoscope to indicate the high workload within the care sector.
The latest motif makes direct reference to the upcoming federal election on September 26th. Behind the message “Cross without hooks” is the beverage manufacturer Fritz-Kola from Hamburg, who repeatedly campaigns against the law and for “a common, colorful and cosmopolitan togetherness”, as managing director Mirco Wolf Wiegert says. The motif is intended to remind “of the privilege of being able to cast one’s vote”.
That participation in democracy cannot be taken for granted is particularly evident among young people between 18 and 29, who use their voting rights less often than all other age groups. “With the help of our own reach, we want to motivate them in particular to deal with the federal election in order to form an opinion and use their vote for a democratic and open society.”
The motifs will be featured in an online campaign as well as on giant posters, walls and site fence posters in Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, Nuremberg, Leipzig and Dresden. At 420 square meters, the mural on Bautzner Strasse is the largest motif. It was implemented by the Concrete Candy artist studio. Six artists worked on it for six days, using over 100 liters of paint and 20 spray cans for the logo stencils for the graffiti. It should be seen until the federal election.
