After a cycle with five base game rounds and three test matches, the SFV scouting tournament was the final event for the 2011 class last Saturday. In late summer temperatures, the East Saxon talents put on a strong performance and finished the tournament undefeated in shared third place.
The boys were clearly excited and nervous before their first tournament game. After all, they were playing on the two grass pitches of the Egidius Braun sports school in Leipzig, not only against the selected teams from the other regions of Saxony, but also against the youth performance centers of Dynamo Dresden, RB Leipzig, Erzgebirge Aue and Chemnitzer FC. To start with, the East Saxon talents led by Andreas Vogel and Steffen Endmann met the Violets from the Erzgebirge, held their own and were rewarded with their first point. In the second game, the defensive lines of both teams dominated proceedings and RA East Saxony managed to snatch a goalless draw from SG Dynamo Dresden. For many of the boys, the match against SGD was a very special encounter, and some of our boys’ former teammates were also on the pitch for the Black and Yellows.
In the third tournament game, the offensive line was broken and Bastian Pohle scored a goal from Paul Seifert to secure the first victory at this year’s scouting tournament. The team put in a solid performance against the South West Saxony regional selection and deservedly won after 20 minutes of play. The fourth and final tournament game was against the U14s of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. With their last bit of strength, the boys put up a great fight against the Leipzig NLZ players and were justifiably proud of the 0:0 draw after the final whistle. The East Saxony regional selection thus finished the tournament undefeated in a strong shared third place, leaving the NLZs from Chemnitz and Aue behind, among others. In addition, some of the boys attracted attention in front of the state coaches and can look forward to an invitation to the state selection.
The day ended with a shared lunch before the players and coaches headed home. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all players, parents, clubs and club coaches for the great cooperation over the past few months. A big thank you also goes to the Westlausitzer FV around Gojko Sinde and Andreas Vogel for the usual pleasant and structured cooperation, as well as to the two Dresden base coaches Alexander Kosbab and Steffen Endmann.
