Dresden: bus shelter madness. Now the wastepaper baskets should go too! | Regional

Of: C. LORD

Dresden – Exactly one year ago, the decision to demolish 800 bus stop houses in the state capital, because the operation and advertising rights for them are to be reassigned from 2023, caused a stir.

Now it’s clear: The 700 waste paper baskets at these stops from the previous advertising partner Wall GmbH are probably also for the bin!

Reason: “Due to the changed legal situation, the new purchase of the wastepaper baskets can no longer be linked to the installation of advertising systems (here: stops, dR) and must be organized and financed independently by the state capital,” says a corresponding town hall paper.

So the old, round buckets with the golden lid should go – 700 new ones are needed. Cost: almost 700,000 euros!

Because the new Pinto 50 model (also round with a silver lid) costs 595 euros plus almost 300 euros for assembly costs per bucket!

In addition to the 2,740 other trash cans in the city, the city cleaning department will also empty the 700 at the bus stops and will in turn demand a monthly bucket rental from the Office for Urban Greenery and Waste Management.

Simply taking over the old buckets is contractually excluded. “We have to stick to the contracts concluded in 1991, which provide for the demolition, even if that doesn’t seem logical,” explains Green City Councilor Torsten Schulze (51).

With the re-tendering of advertising rights, for example at the 800 bus stops, the city expects not only new houses, but soon also around 2.4 million euros a year from the advertising pie.

It may make economic sense, but demolition and reconstruction is certainly not environmentally friendly…
