There have been much better ideas |
Dresden wants BUGA 2033 on this field
Dresden – The shame of the defeat in the candidacy for European Capital of Culture (now Chemnitz) has not yet been fully digested. However, Dresden wants to get to know him again and is now bringing the Federal Horticultural Show (BUGA) 2033 to the Elbe.
The state capital is replacing Cottbus, which has been inactive due to the application, you can hear. Dresden has been involved in the project for some time. Also: There has never been a federal garden show in Saxony.
But instead of a great idea, the Südpark should fix it, for which there has always been a lack of money.
“The German Federal Garden Show Society has granted us a time window for decision making until December 2023,” said Mayor Dirk Hilbert (51, FDP). At that point, a € 250,000 feasibility study must be completed.
The basis is an “idea sketch”, created eg. in collaboration with TU Dresden. In their vicinity – the future Südpark – the central exhibition area will grow.
On the other hand, Hilbert rejected earlier far-reaching ideas, such as the Ostrasee for the Ostragehege. The BUGA doesn’t necessarily need to be developed here, according to the mayor, who hopes for broad approval from the city council.
